A TRIBUTE TO STRENGTH, EXPLORATION, AND THE ART OF METALS -copper-

Copper Brushstrokes

A meditation on copper — its strength, its elegance, and its alchemy. A tribute to resilience and the timeless, expressive art of metals

ARTISTIC INSPIRATION
Brushstrokes is a deeply personal exploration of movement, energy, and resilience. It draws on the conceptual foundations of my collections Al-Kimia and Breaking Moulds, both of which are rooted in the idea that art can embody strength and transformation. These works explore the space between spontaneity and control, emotion and structure — revealing how form can emerge from force. Brushstrokes continues this journey, transforming gesture into sculpture and capturing the expressive essence of fluid motion.
THE MATERIALS
Copper is at the heart of this work — not just as a material, but as a source of inspiration. For me, copper is a living element: a trapper of energy, a conductor of emotion, and a symbol of resilience. It anchors our built world, yet holds within it a quiet elegance and poetic intensity. Every surface, every fold, every patinaed hue in Brushstrokes speaks to copper’s dual nature — raw and refined, grounded and luminous. Entirely handmade, the sculpture reveals the tactile sensitivity and intimate knowledge that comes from working directly with this noble material.

BESPOKE ART COMMISSION
I’m honoured to have been commissioned by Halkin to create Brushstrokes as a bespoke installation for the main reception of MAINFRAIME. It’s a space that could not be a more fitting canvas — or frame — for this piece. MAINFRAIME’s bold architectural character and forward-looking identity perfectly echo the themes of the work. The sculpture becomes more than an object; it becomes part of the building’s language, a statement of artistic presence and energy. This commission represents a meaningful collaboration — one that bridges fine art, material poetry, and architectural dialogue.
Brushstrokes Artwork
The sculpture takes the form of abstract, gestural waves — brushstrokes cast in three dimensions as if moments of motion had been lifted off the canvas and suspended in the air. Finished with a painstakingly applied blue patina, the piece balances light and shadow, movement and stillness. Each contour tells its own story, echoing the tension between control and spontaneity. Brushstrokes invite the viewer to experience paint not as a pigment, but as form — a physical embodiment of emotion, resilience, and rhythm.
